In accordance with the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan concerning the importance of the individual as being the milestone for the welfare of society, the National Rehabilitation Center was founded in 2002. Furthermore, the center is being supported by His Majesty president Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and followed-up by His Highness Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and under the kind and continuous auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, minister of presidency affairs out of their confidence in the role of treatment and rehabilitation in fighting drugs.
The center was established in order to provide treatment and rehabilitation services for addiction patients emulating the corresponding world centers. Therefore, all competent medical staff was selectively chosen from the best countries and treatment programs specialized in such a field. The center has ratified a cooperation pact with the National Addiction Center in London, UK being one of the most prestigious addiction treatment centers in the world. Keen to provide the latest treatment services ever, the center makes every effort to cooperate with world organizations working in the same field including Harvard Collegiate Addiction Department in the United States of America.

1- Treatment Services

The National Rehabilitation Center provides treatment services in the following fields:

The Medical Field:

The patient receives a full medical to find out and diagnose the physical damage caused by addiction, as well as the complications resulting from alcohol abuse.

The Psychological Field:

Full psychological diagnosis is being conducted and any initial psychological disturbances resulting from drug abuse are being treated.

2- Rehabilitation Services

The treatment services are being supported by rehabilitation ones in order to help addicts regain confidence, rebuild a new personality capable of fighting drugs, and enhance their readiness to rejoin and interact with society.

Among the rehabilitation services which the center provides:

• A health education and religious preaching program
• An anti-relapse program
• A computer basics program
• An English language program
• An exercise and fine arts program
• A smoking abstention program

In addition, the center helps patients reincorporate in society.

3- Awareness and Health Education Services

Prevention is a main issue for the National Rehabilitation Center. Therefore, there's a huge stress on the provision of awareness services (as to the cause of drugs, symptoms of addiction, means of treatment, and means of prevention) since prevention is better than treatment. The means which the National Rehabilitation Center is adopting as to health education programs to spread awareness include publications, booklets, and posters, in addition to seminars, field visits, public speeches, discussion groups, health fairs, and other means of public communication. These services are being provided to all different segments of the society in coordination with relevant organizations. The National Rehabilitation Center crowned its awareness and educational services with the launch of the "Yes to Life" Campaign which is considered the hugest Arab awareness project to be set up for the greater good of the country and the whole Arab world.

4- Vocational Training and Scientific Research

The National Rehabilitation Center aims at training national competent scholars and graduates in the fields of psychological treatment and social rehab for drug addicts, in addition to conducting field researches concerning the problem of addiction in Emirates, and building a relevant database to support the decision making process. The center hopes to become a regional field for training and researches conducted on the latest addiction treatment technologies in the region.

5- The Staff of the National Rehabilitation Center

Needless to say, treatment, rehabilitation, and nursing services are provided through a team of specialized and experienced physicians, psychiatrists, nurses in the field of addiction treatment, as well as social workers and other physicians.
